I grew up as the oldest in a family of four girls, so I’ve only experienced sibling-hood as a big sister to 3 little sisters. We were all blessed by having parents who strongly encouraged us to care for and be there for each other. I actually can’t imagine my life- past or present- without my sisters.

I love how we each have unique relationships with each of the others of us, while all sharing this very strong sense of collective memories and consciousness. Sometimes we all four get together for a couple days somewhere beautiful in the mountains, and those are such fun and precious days.

Yesterday afternoon I hopped in the car and headed west for a spontaneous visit to the sister just younger than I. It’s the first time I’ve been here to visit her in her new home, and I’m so happy to be here with her for a couple days.

Since we were born only 21 months apart, our childhoods were very closely intertwined, and the two of us naturally spent endless hours playing together when we were little.

I remember us flattening down the tall, thick green grass in the meadow between our house and Grandpa and Grandma’s house on the farm; we made our own little ‘houses’ this way. Of course the next thing we did was to press down grass tunnels connecting our houses- so we could go visit each other! Some things should never change…
